Sunday, 6/19/2011

On that Sunday, we (the Girl Scouts) drove to Virginia to start on trail. We had spent Saturday dispensing group gear and packing all of our food for the trip. We began our journey on a side trail and then stayed near a shelter on the Appalachian Trail. At camp, we taught the participants siting and pitching shelters, stove/kitchen setup, and dish cleanup in the backcountry, water treatment via boiling and chemical treatment (Aqua Mira), and bear bagging (hanging your food on a branch so animals can't get to it overnight).
We started the hike through a pine forest

Meanwhile back at home, Andrew spent his second Father's Day with his son and my mom. Looks like they had fun!

Hello, garden
Feeding the fish
Placing toys on the window sill
"Time to eat!"
"Looks delicious, Gran. I'll just help myself..."
"Oh, hi!"
"Check out the race track!"
"The cars spin around, it's fun!"

Andrew worked on the area under the house some more. He installed a lot of shelves and a tool rack for shovels, etc. He also made a ramp for outside. It all looks great!
